Hello, my friends.  Please forgive me for my absence, but as we all know, life gets in the way sometimes.  Guess that goes without saying, but I had to say it all the same.  Anyway, I am glad to be returning with some truly great news.

I hope you all remember that amazing first-time trip I made to New York last year to be a part of this awesome documentary film.  A recap of that trip is somewhere on the page, but what I am here to talk about today is that we made it as an official selection feature for the SOHO International Film Festival!

What’s extra wonderful about this festival is that the cast and crew, along with our super talented Emmy-winning Director, Jill Salvino, is that we get to walk the red carpet before the premiere AND we will do a question & answer panel afterward. This is yet another first for me and I am beside myself with pride, fear, excitement, and more nervous anticipation than anyone can imagine.  Most of all, I am so happy to be able to be a small voice in a group outstanding people who are willing to share their stories of life and love with the world in a feature film. This is something we really need right now. More love.  Overall, this is truly a dream come true.

In closing, I just want to say when all is said and done, I will be happy to share all of the events and festivities that happens around this premiere, and if you are in NYC during this festival, I would love to see some of you there.  Let’s start a conversation and keep it going!

Link for tickets is just down below. Hugs & Love ~ Tracy J.

Hello, Friends.  Please forgive me for such a long hiatus, but sometimes real life gets in the way of keeping up with things.  In the last few days I have been updating my Portfolio, which includes published books, flash fiction pieces, book signing tours and events, photos, news articles and more. Altogether the portfolio is up to 35 pages! Considering this thing goes all the way back to my college days, I never realized how much I had done until I took the time to look.  It’s too much stuff to add in a post, so I will add a screenshot to give you some idea.

Anyway…  This post is about catching up on all the things I did in 2016 as I prepare for new adventures for the coming new year.  First thing this year I went to New York to be in a movie!

Storyline: This feature-length documentary seeks to explore the many shades of being gay by what connects us all: love. The film will look at love through 360 degrees of parents, children, and generations. The participants will represent a large range of age groups, ethnicities and professions. They are male, female and those who are still yet to be defined. http://www.betweentheshades.com

For those who aren’t aware how this came about, let me explain.  Near the end of 2015, I met Emmy-winning NY Film Director Jill Salvino online.  It seems social media was working it’s magic again for this connection as Jill was conducting a fundraiser for a documentary film “Between The Shades,” and I offered to share her promotion on all of my online pages.  As we got to know each other and became fast friends, while she was interviewing people for the film, she eventually picked me as well.  So, in February 2016, I took my first flight to New York to be featured in a documentary film. After all those early years of just being an extra in films, I am finally IMDb listed! No idea where this will lead but I happy to report that the movie is presently being submitted to Film festivals for 2017.  I’ll keep you posted on premiere locations and dates. One more thing, there is a list of celebrity moments in this film, including Kathy Najimy (“Sister Act” movies & “Hocus Pocus!”)  Can hardly wait to meet her in person.  Watch my teaser video here and catch the others on YouTube and the movie’s Facebook Page.

Also in February, I had a book signing the following week at a local Dallas Library.

And then there was this…  My first newspaper feature with the Dallas Voice!

One last thing.  I finally broke down and wrote the pilot script (limited series) based on my novel “Secrets & Lies.”  I hope to start pitching this to studios very soon.

In closing, I just want to say thank you for sticking with me, even through the difficult times, and know that I appreciate every one of you.  Cheers to a successful new year for us all.  Hugs & Love, Y’all!  ~ Tracy J.

“If you want something in your life you’ve never had, you’ll have to do something you have never done.” –  Author JD Houston

Those few magical words by Mr. Houston stood out to me for so many reasons when I was looking for something profound to begin this post.  Without question, I have spent many years wishing to be heard in concern to my writing, as long as I didn’t have to be seen too often to promote it. Not sure if it was low self-esteem, social anxiety or what, but long story short, I wanted my work to stand out on its own until I had no other choice. Being the introvert that I am, for reasons I still do not recall, it took the support of a lot of great people in my life to coax me out of the shadows and into the light.  The catalyst being that if I truly wanted to take my work to the next level, then I was going to have to step out of my comfort zone and do something I am usually afraid to do.  Thanks to a lot of chatting, blogging and networking throughout the month of February, I stumbled into an unforgettable journey that can best be described as being an introverted Indie author’s dream come true.  And it was an adventure that I dared myself to take all on my own.

It was February 11th when I stepped into DFW airport for a three-day trip to New York City.  For someone who had never been to NY, all the scary thoughts were there in the back of my mind, but I kept the faith that as long as I kept my wits about me, then all would be just fine.  And it was.  The weather was a bit cold, biting at times really, because the temperature was 26 degrees and constantly dropping the whole time I was there. (When I left Texas it was about 70 degrees.)  I didn’t get to sight-see as I had planned because it was just too cold, but I did take the time to admire whatever I could.

The next day, February 12th, was the event that took me to New York in the first place.    In my notes, the best way to describe it was like this; “As a former background extra turned indie author/aspiring screenwriter, I had long since given up any expectations of ever appearing on a movie screen.  Thanks to Emmy-Winning Director Jill Salvino, I am in NY to make my debut in the documentary feature film “Between The Shades.” Yep.  That’s what I went for.  If you read my bio you would know that a lifetime ago I was seriously into acting, but gave that up for writing.  It’s still difficult for me to describe my emotions at being chosen for this amazing project, but I can say that Jill, the director, and her whole crew were the most wonderful people I have ever met on a movie set.  The many other guests who were there to be featured were impressive and friendly as well.  If I had been there on the Celebrity day shoot, I would have likely lost my mind.  Overall, it was an experience more beautiful than even I can put into words.

BTS Collage

After my return from NY, I had a few days to catch my breath and wrap up all the things that needed to be taken care of while I gone.  The main thing was getting ready for a book signing event at a Dallas library.  By February 17th, I was all good to go.  Unknown at the time, a Dallas City Councilwoman, past and presently running, was in attendance.  I actually spoke to her and gave her all of my contact information and didn’t realize who she was until the next day.  The turnout was small but the outcome was promising for future events, making new friends and interacting with interested readers.

Highland Hill Library Event

Considering that I had been doing emotionally well with all that I had done this month thus far, I decided to reach out to various local media outlets with my story just to see what else I could do while I was still brave enough to do it.  Near the end of the week I received an invitation for a featured interview with staff reporter James Russell at the Dallas Voice, the premier media source for LGBT Texas.  This too, was one of those moments that my mind was blown because I knew if I was ever going to reach a wider local audience, this interview would definitely help.  I think I was the most calm for this than even I expected to be. The interview/photo shoot was February 22nd and the paper came out February 26th.

“Purpose is the reason you journey. Passion is the fire that lights the way.” – Unknown

So, here at the end of this post, I need to reflect on a couple of things.  Though I have no idea what this month-long adventure will do for me or my work in the future, it has, without question, allowed me to feel some level of confidence in myself.  Humble and thankful as I will forever be, it feels really good to have stepped out of the shadow of my fears and did something important for what I know I always wanted to do. As is, I am just one voice for those who are rarely seen, hardly ever heard, and often misunderstood, and this journey has made a great big difference for me no matter how long it lasts.  So please be encouraged to follow your dreams no matter what obstacles that may stand in your way, including yourself.  I am a living witness that when you least expect it, the world of unexpected wonders will open up just for you.

Thankful hugs to all of you for stopping by my page. Be safe.  Be strong.  Be you.  ~ Tracy J

And then the Director said… “Now, We Make A Movie.”

#betweentheshades, Documentary Film

Greetings, my friends.  I have a long way to go to explain the title of this post, but first, let me say this.  Regardless of all the madness that unhappy or just down right hateful people spout all over the internet on a regular basis, I am beyond thankful for the friends and connections I have made through social media.  I don’t subscribe to all of the available channels, but for those few that I do, have made all the difference in my life.  As easy as it is to reach a wider selection of people, I still have a long way to go and social media totally affords me the opportunity to continue chasing my dream in the entertainment industry.

Now before anyone gets the wrong idea, this post/project has absolutely nothing to do with my books.  Yes, I am still trying to reach out to the filmmaking community and I have connected with some of the movers and shakers in the business, but nothing concrete has yet been established in concern to any of my work being made into a film.  That day will come or it won’t.  All I can do is keep shopping things around until it finally lands in the right hands.  Hopes and prayers to be continued.  Moving on…

So here’s the deal…  Some months ago I was trolling social media, Facebook to be exact, as I have recently taken to doing, in search of new connections within the film industry.  By happy chance I ran across a post on Women Filmmakers Across America about a director who was hosting a Kickstarter campaign for a documentary feature film and was looking for bloggers who might want to help spread the word.   Considering that I feature a lot of indie entertainment – authors, musicians, filmmakers and more – on my blog, I went ahead and checked out the campaign.  In just a few minutes of review I knew it was the kind of project I would be proud to support.   The heart of the project is this;

12036516_627249500750884_6036593675375219899_nBETWEEN THE SHADES is a feature film documentary that seeks to explore the shades of being gay by exploring what connects us all: our desire to love. Fifty people will be preselected to participate and share their stories for our film. We will conduct 16 -18 interviews per day for three days with the subjects being either single or as couples. There may be a few surprise visits and clips from some people you may already know. The participants will be given prompts such as best first date, worst kiss, craziest relationship, what people would and would not do for love, etc. The answers to these prompts will be cut together with the intent of showing the commonality of love.

~*~

In the weeks to follow, (My original post was October 2015), I had the opportunity to speak often with the director, Jill Salvino.  All throughout the campaign process she was busy with interviews and other relate issues, but was still kind enough to chat with me about the details of the film.  Though I have supported/promoted other Kickstarter campaigns on my blog, this one was a nail-biter for me because at this point Jill had become a friend.  In the end, words cannot express how thrilled I was at the success of the campaign or my excitement to the post when the director finally said; “Now, we make a movie.”

At present time, there’s a lot of business going on surrounding this film project.  As Jill recently told me, the devil is in the details.  Those details include studio locations, shooting dates, production meetings and more.  For now, all I can tell you is that the movie will be filmed in Manhattan, New York.  I’ll keep you posted on the rest, so please stay tuned.  There’s more to this story still yet to come.  :o)

About this project:

Recently, I found myself reflecting on a flippant conversation I had about the “type of gay” a close friend of mine was. It was an innocent conversation on the diversity of our mutual gay friends.  I began to wonder about all the different gay identities there are and how hard it is to define that experience.

I want to create a documentary that is accessible to all people that will shed light on the many perceptions of what it means to be gay.

Our documentary speaks to those who have found being in love easy, difficult and for some, even impossible. It is for the ones that have yet to hold a hand or experienced their first kiss.
