The Next Big Thing Blog Hop

Thanks to my friend, Bruce Blake @ http://bruceblake.wordpress.com/,  I am experiencing my first blog hop. Being that I am new to this, I will keep it simple and try to make it as entertaining as I can.  Considering that I write realistic human drama, I am so thankful for authors like Bruce who lend a hand to help other indie authors get the word out about their books.  So to get things started I will lay down the rules.

At this point, having read the intro where I mentioned the author/blogger who tagged me is listed, we move on to where I list and answer 10 questions about my current “Work In Progress,” and finally tag 5 amazing author/bloggers to follow my lead.  Before I continue I would like to add that Bruce is an amazing dark-fantasy author and I am a big fan of his Icarus Fell Novels.  Just wanted to say.

Now I am up to the ten questions.  Here we go…

Ten Interview Questions for The Next Big Thing:

What is the working title of your book?

My next big thing is already running.  It is a book/screenplay entitled “The Inhabitants of Magnolia Park.” The ebook is available on amazon and the screenplay is presently in review.  Amazon link – http://amzn.com/B009MQM9FM

Where did the idea come from for the book?

I’ve had this idea working for a long time.  Initially, this book was a collection of stand-alone short stories, but I had always envisioned it as a film project.  I rewrote the stories to follow that dream into a new ebook and screenplay.

What genre does your book fall under?

Realistic human interest –  multicultural romantic drama.

Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?

Considering that I have a central cast of 6, should this project become a working film, I do have a few choice actors in mind for the starring roles.

Theo James – Mila Kunis – Aisha Tyler –  Chase Crawford – Rihanna – Meagan Good – Kevin Zegers, just to name a few.

What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

“Sometimes a need for keeping secrets can be just as intriguing as a reason for telling lies.”

I swiped that line from one of my other books, which is also a part of this book/screenplay project.

Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?

Self-published.  I’m still open to traditional representation/publishing, but for now I am cool with doing it on my own.

How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

The short stories were originally written some time ago.  It took me a few weeks to rewrite and mesh them all together for the new project.

What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

After some thought, I realize that my books can be compared to some of the works by the late E. Lynn Harris.   I liked the way he pushed the limits with lifestyles/sexuality/real-world issues in his characters and I found that idea inspiring to my writing.

Who or What inspired you to write this book?

Having been a reader all my life, I started writing for fun in high school but didn’t consider myself serious about it until later.  My inspiration comes from the people I encounter in my life, past and present.

What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?

Aside from the fact that this book takes an in-depth look into the private lives of everyday people – as secrets can be fun things to learn– the heart of the stories are about overcoming obstacles that tend to hold us back from enjoying life and being true to ourselves.  What makes it even more exciting is that it is also being shared in screenplay form as well.
